About a year ago I had met with a prospective client through a friend. I did an evaluation of their old website and proposed some potential solutions. They asked me to put together a quote and I never heard from them again. They took the information I gave them and rebuilt their website on their own thinking they would save some money.

Fast forward, they ended up talking with my partner through another friend. They are in need of online marketing because a year later they still don’t have any traffic to their website.

Today, anyone with a little effort can build a website, but without a marketing strategy no one will ever know you website exists.
It does not matter what method you choose to get traffic to your website; organic search, pay per click, social media, etc. you have to consider what you are trying to achieve once traffic reaches your website. Are you trying to promote a product(s), service(s), signups, or some other type of conversion.
This is where the real work begins. This is where my expertise can put your business or service on the map.

The Problem With Review Sites

Review sites can be a great source of information with reviews from actual customers or feedback on a product, service, or type of business. However,  a general trend is that a website owner develops and promotes a review site; Some have real information while others may have artificially generated data. In some verticals, competitors will create false or bogus reviews for their competition.

The problem that exists with some review sites is they turn out to be a form of online extortion for businesses that show up or get listed. Once a review site gains some traction in a particular market or niche, they are typically marketed to the businesses in that niche under the auspices of pay, or you won’t be able to manage or contest anything negative that might show up as a review or rating.

With the advent of review and rating sites and the growth of social media; a new industry call Online Reputation Management has been created. Companies that perform reputation management services will work with various rating, review or social media sites to bury or remove negative online information.

Bed Intruder Gone Viral On Youtube

I love following videos that go viral on Youtube. Bed Intruder was born out of a news report and then auto-tuned and turned into a song by the Gregory brothers.

The original version was released on July 31, 2010 and as of today the video has received nearly 11,000,000 views. That’s over 500,000 views per day on average. The video also has over 300 cover songs which I won’t list here. I’ll be launching another site called Viral Video Marketing where I’ll be showcasing videos that go viral.

“Bed Intruder” in just +/- 20 days has turned Antoine Dodson into a celebrity with a T-shirt line and numerous radio and television interviews. I’m predicting he’ll get a reality show offer when all is finished. The Gregory brothers have numerous news clips and speeches that they have auto-tuned, but Bed Intruder is certainly their new claim to fame. The song is available on iTunes and as a ring-tone. Who knows, maybe I’ll attempt my own cover 🙂

This is just example of how creativity and the Internet can skyrocket traffic to a website, product, or service. I hope to see more cool work from the Gregory brothers. Below is the iTunes version of the Bed Intruder song:

Bed Intruder July 16, 2011 – The Gregory Brothers

Well, it’s been nearly a year since the Gregory brothers launched Bed Intruder…so how’s the video doing today? For starters, the Gregory brothers have created a whole new genre for online videos. Bed Intruder now sits are a crazy 20 million plus views since the video first went viral.

Social Media Freak: PubCon Dallas Live Test

Sat in on a live advanced seo tactics session yesterday at PubCon Dallas 2010.

The live test was done for “Social Media Freak” and the hope was that the test site for Giovanni.net would show up #1 in Google for the search term within a few minutes.

The test failed, but that does not mean the technique demonstrated does not work. The tester was able to demonstrate that the tactic works extremely well on other keywords he has tested. I need to go to lunch or play golf with the mystery dude wearing the sunglasses and Dallas Stars jersey. (seriously! let’s do lunch or golf)

This was my first PubCon event and it was evident that there are differences of opinion among panelists, but that’s why we go. We all have the opportunity to experiment with different ideas and tactics to help our sites rank well.
