eCommerce Outsourcing | Outsource Your eCommerce & Shopping Cart

eCommerce outsourcing; Should you consider it for your business?

Just this week I’ve met with two businesses that have been around for quite some time. Successful businesses in their own right, but they’ve never done any business online. Over the years I’ve built many ecommerce sites utilzing open source products such as osCommerce, Zend, and a fairly new shopping cart system from Magento which is gaining market share very rapidly. Back in the day I set up CGI based ecommerce forms that would generate an order number, but nothing like what today’s open source shopping cart tools offer.

Do you have a brick and mortar business? And have never tried e-Commerce. If you’re like many small to medium size business owners, you’re probably intimidated, scared, or just don’t know the right questions to ask. Here’s why I think ecommerce outsourcing can be a win-win for the brick and mortar store or business with product to sell:

  • No huge out of pocket expense to the business owner
  • Performance based relationship – If the marketing company you work with does not perform, they don’t get paid
  • Shared risk by both the business owner and marketing company managing shopping cart
  • Business owner is freed up from having to learn everything there is to learn about ecommerce and online marketing
  • Reduced time to market and performance

There are many companies that can manage just the marketing side of the equation, and other companies that can handle the shopping cart side and all the minute details associated with setting up your ecommerce website. Search Engine Pro can handle them both.

If you’re thinking of setting up an ecommerce site for the first time, and possibly outsourcing your shopping cart management and/or online marketing give us an opportunity to see if we might be a good match for your product line. If we’re not interested, we’ll tell you right up front. We’ll also be happy to share with you our 10+ years of knowledge in working with ecommerce websites and online marketing.

Search Engine Marketing Can Be Overwhelming

35The other day I had a conversation with a Realtor. He is an agent in the RE/MAX system, has a website and a slew of tools available for him to market his real estate business online. Here is what he said that struck a chord with me.

“I’ve got so many tools available for search engine marketing and promotion I’m overwhelmed”

As we continued our conversation, he was looking to me for help with some basics so he could see some incremental progress in his online marketing and lead generation.

60I think this is where many folks are today with their online marketing. There are so many tools and variations that it’s easy even for those of us who call this our profession to get bogged down in SEO/SEM tool testing rather than taking predictable steps each day to improve our search engine marketing presence or to reach a targeted and measurable goal. I’m going to document our progress from the initial set up of a new domain name and will share with visitors at least once per month some tips and ideas for keeping it simple to prevent search engine marketing overload.

Are you a small business owner overwhelmed with all the tools available to market and promote your business online? If so, share your story or thoughts with our visitors.

Viral Video – JK Wedding Dance

If you have not seen the Wedding Dance Video (click link) it’s another great example of how well viral video and / or viral video marketing can work. This Minnesota couple probably had no idea that their very creative and fun wedding entrance dance would garner over 9 million views in just one week.

You never know which video, funny or creative moment will capture the hearts and minds of the entire planet. We are no longer talking about local, regional, or even nation-wide reach.  Viral video marketing can reach the entire planet.

As in the case of Evian, the French mineral water bottler, they probably had no idea how fast their Evian roller babies / roller-skating babies video would reach a global audience at over 8 million views as of this post. Look at all the free promotion Evian received before they spent a single dollar on tv advertising. Viral video can generate tons of free traffic to your product or message. So before you throw in the towel on your Internet marketing efforts be sure to dust off that camcorder and try something creative.

Viral video can be extremely powerful and is just one example of why you should consider video to help promote your business online and offline.

11/22/09JK Wedding Dance Video Update: As of Nov. 09 the JK Wedding Video has been viewed 32 million times. You never know what video creation you come up with might go viral. Get out that video camera and start recording.

The Funny Thing About Internet Gurus

The other day my son was reading a copy of Mike Filsaime’s “The Secrets To Building A 7 Figure Business Online / MarketingDotCom”. He read a section where the author Omar Martin talked about newbies to Internet marketing getting information overload. My son asked me; “Dad, do you have information overload? You can get information overload if you try to read too much stuff”.  I had to tell him the truth so I said YES.

I’ve been involved with Internet marketing since 1999. As a professional Internet marketer, there is always a new tip, trick, tool, method, or gadget that can help customers generate more traffic, visitors, conversions, or sales. As an Internet marketer school never stops. I’m acclimated to Information overload, it’s in my DNA. But for the business ownner or Internet newbie, Information overload can stop you in your tracks.

Here’s the issue I have with “The Big Internet Guru’s” – while most will tell you to pick one to three mentors and stick with them, they all sell, cross-sell, product launch one another’s products. Maybe I sign up for information on Frank Kern’s Mass Control 2.0, next thing I know, I’m getting an offer From Frank on Mike Filsaime’s Butterflymarketing 2.0. Don’t get me wrong, I respect everyone of these guys. It’s my job and responsibility to keep up with the latest trends, but I now read much of my Internet marketing peer’s email from my spam bin. Sign up for 10 guru’s email lists and multiply it by 10.

So where do you start? If I had to start all over again, I would start by seeking out a mentor(s) in your specific niche or area of Interest. Find a marketing mentor who has a proven track record in your field or area of interest. If you start signing up for emails from SEO gurus, Blog Gurus, Social Media gurus, or Video marketing gurus as a newbie you WILL end up with information overload.

What would I do next? Start with the basics. Whether you start with organic traffic, Pay Per Click, or Video marketing, start with one and see it through. Internet marketing is a bit like building a house. If you try to shingle the roof before you pour the foundation and frame the house, you’re likely to have some issues.
