Viral Video – JK Wedding Dance

If you have not seen the Wedding Dance Video (click link) it’s another great example of how well viral video and / or viral video marketing can work. This Minnesota couple probably had no idea that their very creative and fun wedding entrance dance would garner over 9 million views in just one week.

You never know which video, funny or creative moment will capture the hearts and minds of the entire planet. We are no longer talking about local, regional, or even nation-wide reach.  Viral video marketing can reach the entire planet.

As in the case of Evian, the French mineral water bottler, they probably had no idea how fast their Evian roller babies / roller-skating babies video would reach a global audience at over 8 million views as of this post. Look at all the free promotion Evian received before they spent a single dollar on tv advertising. Viral video can generate tons of free traffic to your product or message. So before you throw in the towel on your Internet marketing efforts be sure to dust off that camcorder and try something creative.

Viral video can be extremely powerful and is just one example of why you should consider video to help promote your business online and offline.

The Problem With Internet Video Marketing

The other day I watched a self promoting video from another self-proclaimed video marketing guru that claims rags to riches in about 24 months. The video goes on to claim thousands of free visitors with no need to pay for Google Adwords. The lure of free traffic beyond our wildest dreams is truly appealing. Let me state for the record, I’m a huge fan of Internet video marketing, but here are a few issues I see with marketing yourself and your company on the Internet using video:

  • Not everyone wants to be an Internet video star or personality – Once you put yourself out there you’ve got to maintain your presence
  • What happens if your Internet personality is an employee that leaves your company or goes to a competitor?
  • Video alone may not drive the volume of traffic you need to sustain your business
  • Not every company or small business has the time and resources to put it all together in a cost effective manner
  • Internet video marketing may not be the best option for your specific business – are there benefits? Sure, but are they for every company? Maybe not
  • Internet video marketing is not the end-all solution to getting traffic. It’s one of many tools you should have in Internet marketing tool bag
