Susan Boyle | Viral Video On Steriods

If you have not seen the Susan Boyle Video you’ve been living under a rock for the past week.

Susan Boyle was an unknown singer and unlikely contestant on Britains Got Talent. As she took the stage to fufill her mother’s dieing wish, Susan was mocked and bood for her wishful ambition of becoming a professional singer. Most of the rude comments and boos were edited from the video you can watch by clicking the link above. You see, Susan was judged before anyone heard her sing.

Susan Boyle’s story and inspiration has so caught on fire that in just about a week and as of this post her video has received over 16 million views and 89,000 comments with well wishes and encouragement to fufill her dreams. Folks, this is viral video marketing on steroids. In nearly the span of 24 hours alone the video received 10 million views.

Susan has litterally hundreds of fan sites that have popped up over night and requests to do an album as well as requests to come to the USA. This is the power of video. One video can change your life and potentially your business.

Will everyone that puts a video up  on YouTube, Revver, Vimeo, etc. receive 16 million + views or let alone 1 million? Probably not, but this is an incredible example of how a simple video can change a life and maybe even the world.

Is Twitter An IM Application On Steroids?

The more I think about it, the more it appears that Twitter is an IM application on steroids. Twitter allows for tweets and twitting with your peeps, just like an IM application. The primary difference is that all of your tweets end up in a blog that can be searched.

Think about it, take your favorite IM tool and look at the similarities:

  • I can tweet from my cell phone – I can IM from my phone
  • I can send URLs in a tweet – I can send URLs via IM
  • I can tweet photos – I can send photos via IM
  • I can follow or be followed in Twitter – I can do the same with IM

Again, the big  difference is that traditional IM has some forms of privacy and can be somewhat proprietary. With Twitter, there are numerous applications, but if you can get to the web via desktop or mobile phone you can tweet and search twitter as a wider public medium.

What are your thoughts on Twitter? How are you using Twitter? Is Twitter a giant IM application on steriods? Is Twitter a fad? or is Twitter the application that could give Google a run for its money?
