Bed Intruder Gone Viral On Youtube

I love following videos that go viral on Youtube. Bed Intruder was born out of a news report and then auto-tuned and turned into a song by the Gregory brothers.

The original version was released on July 31, 2010 and as of today the video has received nearly 11,000,000 views. That’s over 500,000 views per day on average. The video also has over 300 cover songs which I won’t list here. I’ll be launching another site called Viral Video Marketing where I’ll be showcasing videos that go viral.

“Bed Intruder” in just +/- 20 days has turned Antoine Dodson into a celebrity with a T-shirt line and numerous radio and television interviews. I’m predicting he’ll get a reality show offer when all is finished. The Gregory brothers have numerous news clips and speeches that they have auto-tuned, but Bed Intruder is certainly their new claim to fame. The song is available on iTunes and as a ring-tone. Who knows, maybe I’ll attempt my own cover šŸ™‚

This is just example of how creativity and the Internet can skyrocket traffic to a website, product, or service. I hope to see more cool work from the Gregory brothers. Below is the iTunes version of the Bed Intruder song:

At its peak, the song rose to #3 on iTunes and now sits at #56 on iTunes. Have you seen the Bed Intruder video? What did you think? Do you have a favorite video that went viral? Comment below.

Justine Ezarik – iJustine | Who is She?

This is probably my first article about a specific person I like to follow on the web and probably won’t be my last. If you have not heard or seen Justine Ezarik aka iJustine on the Internet you’ve need to get out from under your rock or stop playing farmville.

Justine is an internet phenomenon with over 1 million followers on Twitter and a world wide audience and over 25 million video views. Justine Ezarik is known as a lifecaster and has produced over 200 videos with a comic style all her own.

From a marketing perspective (going to be repetitiveĀ  here) it shows you the power of online video, viral video marketing, and social media and what can happen when you have a creative streak. Justine is not just a pretty blond with a Youtube channel; She’s an accomplished graphic designer, web developer, and video editor. Here favorite food is ketchup. (Maybe that’s where she gets all her creativity)

So whether you’reĀ  just starting out with video or your own Youtube channel or you’ve got some brainy idea you need to try; I’m sure iJustine will give you some ideas and much needed comic relief.

Here are some links for Justine Ezarik and a few videos if you need some inspiration:

Viral Video – JK Wedding Dance

If you have not seen the Wedding Dance Video (click link) it’s another great example of how well viral video and / or viral video marketing can work. This Minnesota couple probably had no idea that their very creative and fun wedding entrance dance would garner over 9 million views in just one week.

You never know which video, funny or creative moment will capture the hearts and minds of the entire planet. We are no longer talking about local, regional, or even nation-wide reach. Ā Viral video marketing can reach the entire planet.

As in the case of Evian, the French mineral water bottler, they probably had no idea how fast their Evian roller babies / roller-skating babies video would reach a global audience at over 8 million views as of this post. Look at all the free promotion Evian received before they spent a single dollar on tv advertising. Viral video can generate tons of free traffic to your product or message. So before you throw in the towel on your Internet marketing efforts be sure to dust off that camcorder and try something creative.

Viral video can be extremely powerful and is just one example of why you should consider video to help promote your business online and offline.

11/22/09JK Wedding Dance Video Update: As of Nov. 09 the JK Wedding Video has been viewed 32 million times. You never know what video creation you come up with might go viral. Get out that video camera and start recording.

The Funny Thing About Internet Gurus

The other day my son was reading a copy of Mike Filsaime’s “The Secrets To Building A 7 Figure Business Online / MarketingDotCom”. He read a section where the author Omar Martin talked about newbies to Internet marketing getting information overload. My son asked me; “Dad, do you have information overload? You can get information overload if you try to read too much stuff”.Ā  I had to tell him the truth so I said YES.

I’ve been involved with Internet marketing since 1999. As a professional Internet marketer, there is always a new tip, trick, tool, method, or gadget that can help customers generate more traffic, visitors, conversions, or sales. As an Internet marketer school never stops. I’m acclimated to Information overload, it’s in my DNA. But for the business ownner or Internet newbie, Information overload can stop you in your tracks.

Here’s the issue I have with “The Big Internet Guru’s” – while most will tell you to pick one to three mentors and stick with them, they all sell, cross-sell, product launch one another’s products. Maybe I sign up for information on Frank Kern’s Mass Control 2.0, next thing I know, I’m getting an offer From Frank on Mike Filsaime’s Butterflymarketing 2.0. Don’t get me wrong, I respect everyone of these guys. It’s my job and responsibility to keep up with the latest trends, but I now read much of my Internet marketing peer’s email from my spam bin. Sign up for 10 guru’s email lists and multiply it by 10.

So where do you start? If I had to start all over again, I would start by seeking out a mentor(s) in your specific niche or area of Interest. Find a marketing mentor who has a proven track record in your field or area of interest. If you start signing up for emails from SEO gurus, Blog Gurus, Social Media gurus, or Video marketing gurus as a newbie you WILL end up with information overload.

What would I do next? Start with the basics. Whether you start with organic traffic, Pay Per Click, or Video marketing, start with one and see it through. Internet marketing is a bit like building a house. If you try to shingle the roof before you pour the foundation and frame the house, you’re likely to have some issues.

Here is a good resource for Adwords and good marketing fundamentals:

Perry is a down to earth common sense guy and plugged into the latest information regarding Adwords marketing. I had the priviledge of taking part in his 4 Person Round Table in Chicago.

Susan Boyle | Viral Video On Steriods

If you have not seen the Susan Boyle Video you’ve been living under a rock for the past week.

Susan Boyle was an unknown singer and unlikely contestant on Britains Got Talent. As she took the stage to fufill her mother’s dieing wish, Susan was mocked and bood for her wishful ambition of becoming a professional singer. Most of the rude comments and boos were edited from the video you can watch by clicking the link above. You see, Susan was judged before anyone heard her sing.

Susan Boyle’s story and inspiration has so caught on fire that in just about a week and as of this post her video has received over 16 million views and 89,000 comments with well wishes and encouragement to fufill her dreams. Folks, this is viral video marketing on steroids. In nearly the span of 24 hours alone the video received 10 million views.

Susan has litterally hundreds of fan sites that have popped up over night and requests to do an album as well as requests to come to the USA. This is the power of video. One video can change your life and potentially your business.

Will everyone that puts a video upĀ  on YouTube, Revver, Vimeo, etc. receive 16 million + views or let alone 1 million? Probably not, but this is an incredible example of how a simple video can change a life and maybe even the world.

Google AdWords: Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket

No, this is not an Easter related article and has nothing to do with putting Easter Eggs in multiple baskets. But what it does point out are some of the inconsistencies with Google Adwords and why you need to spread your risk out on multiple search engines and continue to explore every avenue including email, social media marketing, video marketing and other methods that will bring consistent traffic to your website that will convert to a sale, a lead, or whatever it is you are looking to measure.

In the past two weeks one of our Google Adwords accounts traffic dropped off sharply. The account has been active for over a year and has a fairly consistent track record. The traffic on this account dropped off by over 100,000 impressions per day. Several calls to Google resulted in one rep stating that is was probably competition (which I challenged) and a second rep stating that it is normal for Content Network traffic to swing up and down much higher than 100,000 impressions on any given day.

No matter how successful an Internet marketer you are, your business will be subject to the fluctuations of Google Adwords traffic and any other search engine PPC program for that matter. This is one reason video marketing and social media marketing have exploded.

The Problem With Internet Video Marketing

The other day I watched a self promoting video from another self-proclaimed video marketing guru that claims rags to riches in about 24 months. The video goes on to claim thousands of free visitors with no need to pay for Google Adwords. The lure of free traffic beyond our wildest dreams is truly appealing. Let me state for the record, I’m a huge fan of Internet video marketing, but here are a few issues I see with marketing yourself and your company on the Internet using video:

  • Not everyone wants to be an Internet video star or personality – Once you put yourself out there you’ve got to maintain your presence
  • What happens if your Internet personality is an employee that leaves your company or goes to a competitor?
  • Video alone may not drive the volume of traffic you need to sustain your business
  • Not every company or small business has the time and resources to put it all together in a cost effective manner
  • Internet video marketing may not be the best option for your specific business – are there benefits? Sure, but are they for every company? Maybe not
  • Internet video marketing is not the end-all solution to getting traffic. It’s one of many tools you should have in Internet marketing tool bag

Before you throw your company into the arena of Internet video marketing be sure it’s the right solution for your company and you are willing to put the time and resources into making it successful. Look for my upcoming whitepaper on video marketing at: www.videomarketingwhitepaper.com
